Abstract

Language contact, the interaction and influence of different languages, is a pervasive phenomenon in human history. This paper investigates the ways in which language contact can lead to language change. It examines various factors, such as language dominance, bilingualism, and sociolinguistic factors, that can influence the outcomes of language contact. The paper also explores specific types of language change, including borrowing, code-switching, and pidginization, and analyzes case studies to illustrate the impact of language contact on real-world languages. By understanding the mechanisms of language contact, we can gain insights into the historical development and diversity of human languages.
